A Sikh-Muslim interfaith couple have been rejected acceptances in both families. Amrita and her boyfriend have been dating for 3-years, they have both faced obstacles in their relationship to achieve the approval from their traditional parents.

Amrita’s partner, Khan shares his story about how he told his parents and the reality of the way he was treated.

Amrita’s parents had rejected the couple's relationship the same day Khan told his parents. The reactions were no less different as Khan explained.

"My parent’s were obviously not pleased given their traditional backgrounds. They wanted her to convert to Islam, so it would become acceptable".

Khan, had expressed that converting was not an option for Amrita, "I accepted Amrita as she was 3 years ago and would never want her to change her identity for my family. She won’t be the same if she converts and I can’t let that happen.

"It’s a sacrifice that I could never make, so how could I possibly ask her for so much?" Khan said.

Khan as a Muslim was aware of the rules and teachings of marriage in Islam. The religion does now allow a marriage between a Muslim and non-believer unless the non-believer converts and believes in Islam.

"Our parents both rejected us, unfortunately they failed to pay attention to our compatibility.

"No one can ever find me a better life partner than her. It’s a shame religion is such a huge barrier to love".
